About

We have recently discovered 100 mint condition copies of our classic hardback book which covers the contribution made by Bomber and Coastal Aircrew to the Battle of Britain.

The Other Few was conceived by former 1940 Whitley gunner Larry Donnelly as a tribute to his fellow airmen who did not live to tell their tale.
In failing health, Larry entrusted the completion of his work to Simon. Working with the now familiar Wing Leader Team, Simon and Mark Postlethwaite got the book out in time for Larry see its launch at Duxford shortly before he passed away.

Still unique in its concept and content, The Other Few chronicles the day-by-day activity of Bomber Command, Coastal Command and the Fleet Air Arm from 1st July to 31st October 1940. Each day and night has a summary of operations, with number of sorties flown and operational losses, including many detailed accounts, such as the that of Sergeant John Hannah VC, the Battle of Britain’s ‘second VC’.
This is a unique and fitting tribute to ‘The Other Few’ whose deeds have been largely forgotten, and a key piece in understanding the Battle of Britain.

Roll of Honour
During the Battle of Britain 719 Bomber Command aircrew, 231 Coastal Command aircrew and 34 Fleet Air Arm aircrew, lost their lives – 984 men – Fighter Command lost 513 pilots and gunners.
