Crashed Pathfinder Lancaster recovered in France

Avro Lancaster

The Somme Aircraft Recovery Group, led by Pierre Ben, recovered substantial remains of Lancaster EE177. The Lancaster was lost on the night of 27-28th August, 1943, on a raid to Nuremberg.

All seven crew from the 156 Squadron ‘Pathfinder’ were killed:
F/O. J. Nesden (killed)
Sgt. C. F. Webb (killed)
P/O. A. E. Emans (killed)
Sgt. R. C. Mason (killed)
Sgt. H. E. Warren (killed)
Sgt. D. J. Atkinson (killed)
Sgt. H. K. Hollidge (killed)

All four Packard Merlin engines were recovered, with some of the propeller blades, together with much other airframe wreckage.
