A Ju88 from KG1

The crash site of a Ju88 has been re-excavated in Surrey. The aircraft was Ju88A-1 V4-MU Wn.4300 of 10./KG1 and was shot down the night of 16-17th April, 1941.

The crew, who all died in the crash, was:

Oberleutnant Schlecht
Oberfeldwebel Herman
Oberfeldwebel Gerleid
Oberfeldwebel Frieisen

After being shot down by a Beaufighter, the aircraft dived steeply into the ground and exploded. The original recovery team, and a ‘dig’ in the early 1970s, left little wreckage to be found, except for the remains of a smashed engine.
