About
Wingleader are delighted to announce the launch of ‘The Dambuster Lancaster’ a Wingleader Modeller’s special, which is set to become one of the most sought after books in aviation modelling.
After we sold out of Wingleader’s Dambuster Lancaster hardback book a few years ago, we were swamped with enquiries about when a reprint was planned. We discussed it with Piotr Forkasiewicz and Mark Postlethwaite, the book’s authors, and they felt that there were certain aspects of the book that could be updated and maybe refocused on the modelling side, especially now there were two 1/32 scale model kits on the market.
So we decided to commission a new ‘Dambuster Lancaster’ book, but this time entirely aimed at the modelling community. We invited Bomber Command expert Peter Allam to co-author it with Piotr and set them to work. It soon became apparent that Piotr’s 3D model needed a lot of updating to include new information about the standard Lancaster interior, (the old model had focused almost entirely on the Type 464 mods).
The planned three month schedule soon slipped and Piotr eventually found himself rebuilding many parts of his incredible 3D model from scratch, taking over 12 months in total.
The final result is breathtaking. Piotr’s Type 464 3D model is now, without doubt, the most accurate representation of a ‘Dambuster Lancaster’ anywhere in the world.
In this new book we have rendered dozens of high-res views of the model, both inside and out, to give the modeller a comprehensive understanding of how to accurately represent a Type 464 Lancaster. We’ve also gone further back into the fuselage to include the rest-bed and the rarely seen or featured armoured bulkhead doors.
Accompanying the images and period photos are extended captions in which author Peter Allam explains all the kit and modifications that are visible to the reader. He also answers many common modeller’s questions about equipment and paint schemes along the way.
All in all, this is an exceptional book that will answer all questions about the ‘Dambuster Lancaster’ and will be an essential guide for anybody who is making a model of the Type 464.

About the Author
As the son of a wartime Lancaster pilot and growing up in a house full of Lancaster books, it was perhaps inevitable that Peter Allam would come to share his father’s love of Roy Chadwick’s masterpiece. Over the years he has carried out a variety of different historical aviation research projects, and was also a researcher and archivist at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum.
In addition to carrying out in-depth research on the Lancaster over the last 40 years, Peter has also authored a variety of articles on WW2 aviation subjects for various journals, including the membership magazines of the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum and Vintage Wings of Canada.
In the early 1980s Peter began a career as an aircraft engineer and has worked on most of the larger transport jets, with the occasional diversion into WW2 fighters and light aviation. Born and raised in Surrey, UK, for the last 15 years Peter has called Ontario, Canada his home.
Piotr Forkasiewicz
Piotr was born in Opole, Poland in 1978. During his years of commercial work he was involved in many interesting projects and in a great scope of graphic activities, from graphic and industrial design to creating models, textures and scenes for animations, films and television. He worked with the famous Platige Image Studio on a few animated films and with the Planetarium of Copernicus Science Centre on the first Polish production in the fulldome technology – “Dream to fly”. But his greatest passion is still military illustration – mainly aviation and naval art. Throughout his teenage years he spent as much time around aircraft as he could. However, when he read an article about James Dietz in a magazine and saw the aviation art of Polish artist – Jaroslaw Wrobel, he discovered the way to finally express his passion for aviation. Although starting with pencils and paints, he soon found the computer as an ideal tool to create the images that he had in mind. Using advanced 3D software he painstakingly built his own 3D Lancaster model and then used it to create a series of striking images. He didn’t realise at the time that something that started as personal project would eventually almost take over his working life. His work was an instant hit with veterans and enthusiasts alike and during last few years he has created dozens of Lancaster images for families and veterans themselves. He creates illustrations for books, magazines and collectors and his works are in many private collections in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and USA. Piotr lives in Czestochowa, Poland with wife Agnieszka and two sons Mikolaj and Tymon.
